Minecraft will only slow down your computer if you play on the highest settings. Tone it down a bit and you should be fine.

And Minecraft will NEVER give you a virus! The only things that'll get you viruses are some mods that you can download. Be careful when you're downloading a mod from a strange website.

Ok well it should not give it any virus or anything like that but you can scan the web page to make sure and no it should not slow your computer down to the point of no use of slow it down a lot so its a fun game and does not slow it down have fun :)
