for anyone who still thinks we only starting ranking this way in 2008, read it and weep

that's NBC's 2004 count from Athen's. as you can see, they were ranked by total medals, just as we'vwe always ranked them

it's called a medal count, not a gold medal count. to rank by gold alone would be like telling an athlete that their silver or bronze medals mean nothing. but they do.

So to put it mildly, there is still going to be hating crybabies that are moaning about how the USA counts medals.

I'm not whining, GO USA! I think it's great! :) Congratulations to all the US athletes and especially Michael Phelps, for his history making achievement of 22 MEDALS!  There's a pattern in the Olympics, athletes from around the world TRAIN in the US, they use our facilities, go to our colleges and use our coaches...that's because we have the best athletics in the world.
