What is wrong with stereotyping people?
I mean... sadly most stereotypes are... true...
or at least most are true to a point.
I am not talking about stupid things like X people are genetically stupid, I am talking about stereotypes such as Asians always being good at video games or math. Somehow everyone finds that or similar stuff as racist.

The reason its wrong is because it causes you to have a predisposed opinion of a person before truly getting to know them, which can (consciously or subconsciously) make you treat them differently. Yes, I agree a lot of stereotypes do hold true to a large amount of whatever populous the pertain to, but you can't let this interfere with genuinely getting to know a person (or refusing to for that matter).

The problem with stereotyping is you are judging someone based on the behaviour of other people.
As an example.
The old blonds are dumb. I have known some blond women who are air heads, yet I know others who are very much on the ball. Is it reasonable to right off all blonds as dumb when its not the case.
Asians always being good at video games is just an out right mistake.
I know many Asians who have no interest in video games. I also know many others who are good at them and off all the Japanese are not bad players.
Another unjust example is Americans are all loud mouths.
While most are, not all are so just assuming a person will be loud because he is a yank is not just.

It's wrong because you're generalizing about someone when you don't even know them properly. By the way, if you stereotype or generalize people, it's called prejudice and you could actually get sued for that in some countries so it's better not to say anything.

your right. certain stereotypes are often true. however:
others are not. and others are hurtful whether they are true or not. for example, there is a stereotype that gay men are feminine. feminine gay men (from my experience) are well in the minority. and the idea that asians are good at math can be hurtful if say an asian child is terrible at math. they have 'failed' to uphold something which is apparently so ingrained in them it is a stereotype.

Because you can't judge somebody fully until you really get to know them for a long time. Just because somebody says something or acts a certain way one time doesn't mean you just categorize or label them. After you know them well and long enough you can then make your opinion.

At one time you could say things like that.
Whether people like it or not it's still true and even if they don't admit it out loud they know it is.
The answer is of course, political correctness gone mad.
