When I was growing up in the 80's, they had this little show called Headbanger's Ball. The title of the show was misleading to what they played, Hair Metal. With a pinch of Thrash thrown in. So to answer your question, Hair and some Thrash.

I'm no longer inclined to mention what the pleasant kind is, however I'm a fan of ambient black steel. And I'd say Wolves within the Throne Room as they're the band that bought me into no longer simply black steel, however mainly steel more commonly. Doom steel is relatively well too regardless that, principally drone and funeral doom.
