Not everyone drives, so it is not required. As for "keeping it from them" if you have it - I am disturbed by the previous answer. If you do not intend to pay back loans, you should not take them. Believe me, if you take the loans, the government wants you to pay them back, and with or without a Driver License number on record, they will track you down. The idea that the Feds cannot locate your Driver license number if they want to is ridiculous.

You will be offered Subsidized loans first, if you qualify. They have a lower interest rate, and the government pays the interest while you are in school. No school will offer Unsubsidized first - they are offered if you do not qualify for or have exhausted Subsidized loans.

if you are over the age of 18, then you need to have a state issued ID

if it is not a driver's license, then a non-driver ID

how did you get admission without a state issued ID?

They want your driver's license number so in the event you don't pay, they can track you down through that. Never give that to them. Put on the form I have none or "None" or N/A or just leave it blank. If you need to give something, instead, give them your passport number instead!

    Subsidized is better!
