With another shooting to pile on, how long before gun control becomes a reality and an election issue?

Update:

@ At one with the dumb- You said: " doesn't matter because the 2nd amendment guarantees my right to own a gun so get over it."

What in my phrasing suggested a stance on gun control one way or the other? You have outed yourself as a presumptive f*ckwit.

These shootings don't prompt gun control.

However, a lack of universal health care means many wackadoodles can't get the professional help they need *before* they shoot the place up.

    Romney banned guns.

    Bush/Cheney confiscated guns.

    Obama expanded gun rights.

As a liberal into liberty, I'll stand up for your right to own guns.

But if you need 100 rounds to shoot a deer, remind me not to let you pee in my bathroom.

Never. Guns are for protection. Even if you made guns illegal, the crooks would still be able to get them on the black market. the only difference is that the good people living in that nice house won't have guns and the crooks would. Texas allows law abiding citizens to carry a gun after taking a gun safety class and a extensive background check. Thieves have to think twice about breaking into a home in Texas or even going on a rampage in public. There's no telling who is packing heat. Just think about, if James Homles would have done the same thing in Texas, chances are at least one of them would have been armed and there might have been less fatalities and even better, a dead James Holmes.

According to the FBI we are at 37 year low for violent crime and at a 45 year low for homicide. Despite the mainstream media attempting to use the recent tragic shootings as a mechanism for advancing their anti gun agenda, gun control is still a losing issue in most parts of the country. Poll after poll shows that the majority of Americans understand that criminals are the problem, not guns. And that no gun control law has ever been shown to reduce crime.

Any attempt to put gun control on the table is going to be met with a great deal of skepticism and rightfully so. It does not work, and it only impacts the law abiding while criminals simply ignore the law.

It really is a waste of time.

With the 2nd amendment and a SCOTUS that embraces the individual right interpretation of it; there really isn't much gun control can do.

In other countries; fewer guns has conclusively resulted in fewer shootings. Fewer murders. Further gun accidents. The whole nine yards.

Problem is; the degree of gun control needed to deliver those results can't pass by the 2nd amendment and SCOTUS. So all gun laws are just squeezing a balloon.

It will take about as long, as it takes a die-hard gun-rights-advocate to realise that easy access to guns, means easy access for law abiding citizens AND CRIMINALS AS WELL.

Since, no gun owner, and especially not the NRA, will EVER admit that having guns so easily available on the market, makes it very easy for a first time offender (or a trafficker) to purchase guns for his own mischief ..... this issue will never reach the national political debate.

Do you remember how the NRA killed an entire politian's campaign not to long ago ?

The only way for this to reach the national level, is to have an organization just as powerful as the NRA backing the opposing view.

I don't know, but the HONEST CITIZENS need to vow to NEVER surrender their rights...or their guns. The liberals who use these shootings as opportunities to advance their cause for gun control should all be arrested and they most often do not care about the victims.

Anyone who thinks that taking away the rights of HONEST CITIZENS will help to control the criminal element should be classified under the clinical definition of a moron. the legal definition of traitor and the general definition as a scoundrel.

we already have gun control. guess it isn't working.

doesn't matter because the 2nd amendment guarantees my right to own a gun so get over it.

EDIT- the fact that you use words like "f*chwit" is proof that you are uneducated, and lack the intellectual ability to make an educated opinion of the subject.

What we need is a decision from the Supreme Court, a truly unbiased Court at that, about whether or not one man's right to bear arms can supercede another man's right to life.

As a thirty year ER physician I hope to see the day we start reducing the number of handguns and non hunting rifles available to the criminal and the insane. One day I would like to finish a meal break uninterrupted.

There are already enough gun control laws on the books to choke a horse.
