Floor cover for wood deck?
I have a covered area on my wood deck that I would like to temporarily enclose during winter, probably with plastic "walls" to protect my container plants, but what do I do about cold air coming up through the decking? I would like to put a floor covering over the wood to block the cold air/wind, a covering strong enough to walk on, but not one that would cause mold or rot to occur on the wood. Any ideas?
I should add we live in Central TX, so temps only occasionally get below freezing. When my container trees were smaller, I used to use a portable greenhouse or put everything into the garage. The trees are abt 6 ft tall now and very heavy, on casters, so it is hard to move them off the deck. Last year, I simply wrapped them in frost blankets and they did fine, but I would like to be able to create an outdoor room and roll them in when there is a threat and out when the weather is fine.

Got ideas....Normally I would say to lay down another decking material over what you have because it is light in weight and a similar material. I can't say that in this case because decking material has to have space for expansion/contraction.
My recommendation would be "Hardiboard" that is installed with masonry screws. It is not real heavy, would be able to handle water and would be durable for walking on. Except you put a tile covering over the "Hardiboard", I would apply a "masonry sealer" to the "Hardiboard" as to SEAL OUT constant water saturation and keep the top of the deck dryer. Once the "Hardiboard" is put down, the top of the wood deck would NOT dry out as fast because there is lack of air and heat. A sealer would prevent this.

First I want to know why mold and rot are possible. Where would the dampness that causes them come from? Without knowing that, I don't know what to suggest. And how much traffic will this floor covering get? Possibilities for a floor covering include indoor/outdoor carpet, sheet vinyl, sheets of plywood, or even just a sheet of heavy plastic, but you haven't given enough info.

=== putting those plants on the deck even if you do have solid flooring will still cause that space to act like a freezer .... you would be better served to build a ""hot house"" on the ground and a tin or plastic roof to absorb the suns' heat ........ if you can find space in the garage for the plants that would be the best .............

any oil base product will cut tar wd-40,turpentine,paint thinner, lacquer thinner the best is probably lacquer thinner it drys faster and will not damage the wood underneath
