A well bred American Bulldog usually sells for $800-1200. Your friend is selling poorly bred, unpapered dogs that might as well be mongrels. No reputable breeder will sell a dog to someone who is getting it on impulse. Nor do they push to get rid of their pups. Reputable breeders take responsibility for their actions and don't try to pawn off their puppies on whoever walks by.
American Bulldogs are BIG, strong, headstrong dogs who need a firm owner. They don't get along with dogs, cats, or other small animals and if poorly bred then they have a high tendency to snap.

Note that American Bulldogs are not the same as the traditional Bulldog also called the English Bulldog.
How do you know these American Bulldogs are pure? Do you have documentation of lineage maintained by an independent registry? If not a person could be selling boxer mixed with pitbull.
So you state there are no papers. Note that even if there are papers, they are often 'empty' meaning no dog of quality or note appears in the parents, grand parents or great grandparents. But you don't even have empty papers, you have a paperless dog whose lineage is entirely based on what someone told your friend which was then passed on to you.
The question then becomes 'would you pay $450 for a random mutt whose appearance you thought was really cool and who had his shots?' Answer that question and you will have your answer.

A dog from a good breeder never ever ever ends up, or needs a resuce.. Good breeders do provide lifetime support, take back.. they carefully screen homes for fit.. this reduces the # of dogs ever even needing it.. stop the shelter issue or need for shelters on the first day... OHH what a thought.. Any breeder who does not insist or require a dog come back to them if you cannot keep it.. or a breeder not intrested in lifetime support and keeping in touch with you.. WALK AWAY! Some people do want to have a predictable pet,, so adoption may not suit them.. if they do not have such a wish or requirement.. then of couse adopt!!.. any good breeder also would reffer them to a resuce if this is the case.. these same "breeders" also often work with resuce for the dogs that do not have the safty net their dogs have, giving up time, money and space for them till they can find homes too.. OHH evil breeders... As far as the money thing.. well if you do not do a lot of stuff with your dogs.. and cut some corners.. yeh you can make some if not a LOT of money at it.. skip health testing, breed often, do not do anything with your dogs.. the list goes on.. and that is how you make money at it.. Good breeders do find at the end of the year, even with a litter or so.. when all expeses are added up very little if any money is to be made.. because any money from puppy sales goes right back unto the care, training etc of the dogs.. and not to mention the ongoing cost involved before a dog can even be bred, or spent only not ever breeding that dog.. Again.. volume would fix this.. also charging more for each puppy than breeders do now.. but keep in mind breeding is more of a hobby and passon.. not a job or source of income.. and this is why a breeder breeds.. the enjoyment of the dogs, the people you meet, and pride in what you produce.. not getting rich.. Your friend sounds like a backyard breeder, and without papers, theres certainly no guarantee you're buying what you think you're buying.
If you want a pure bred American Bull Dog, then fork out the extra couple of hundred dollars and visit a fully registered breeder who will be able to guarantee the breed for you with pedigree papers.

Adopt one from a shelter or rescue before supporting a backyard breeder. That price tag on a "pure" pup she wants to "get rid of" but no papers to prove anything? That screams BYB.
If you want a well-bred dog, you're going to have to pay for it. $500 is cheap. The price from a reputable breeder will vary but it will be more than that.

I guess she wants to get rid of them! No papers = poor quality dog whose parents should never have been bred. Reputable breeders ONLY breed the best, do all the health testing necessary for the breed, provide written health guarantees and definitely don't have to get rid of their puppies!
These puppies have no papers, they aren't worth more than the cost of the first vet visit - if this backyard breeder even took them.

$800+ and up!
If the dog has no papers how can you know it's purebred?
Trust me, no one is going to sell you top of the line, purebred English Bulldog puppies for $500....Almost any dog an acquire papers these days, even crap quality dogs and mutts/mongrels. Tell your friend to stop backyard breeding.

Your friend is selling ill bred BYB puppies that will die an early death and come with thousands in vet bills
Reptible breeders sell bull dogs at 1,000+ and they still have a lot of health issues that will cost you thousands in vet bills. They are a very unhealthy breed

if your gonna pay that much you should get the papers. with no papers they range as low as 150 and up. but with papers they start at 500.00 and up. the better the line the more you pay. mine are worth 2500 a piece becasue of the famous lines in my dogs. and champions as well.
