The machine slows down a lot. When it cools it starts again but slows down after I use it. I cleaned it, oiled it and changed the foot pedal.

Sounds like there's high resistance somewhere, probably a frayed wire. Resistance increases with increased temperature in metals near room temperature. I assume you're talking about a model that starts 158.xxxxxxx which means the machine was made by White, and therefore at least 25 years old. Time to let the shop give it a good overhaul or look for a new machine.
