Why don't people appreciate good music anymore?

I'm a huge fan of post hardcore, emo, pop punk, ska, hardcore, and powerviolence.

I know everyone has there own tastes, but it seems the only thing people can appreciate about music is rap. Not that rap is a bad thing, I love my occasion of Odd Future and Lil B.

I mean like.. look at Lil Wayne's fans compared to an actual band that works so hard to get the small percentage of fans they have because our youth is too stupid to recognize it.

Everyday on tv i hear some crappy songs with terrible lyrics, like LMFAO or whatever they wanna call themselves. It's just so sad.

Am I the only one who thinks this? people need to learn what actual music is?

In terms of what's on the radio and what gets airplay? This is the age of the RIAA and the Clear Channel/Wal-Mart Edit. Meaning the record labels are paranoid about every last possible thing, suing Girl Scouts and Dead Grandmas alike, and having every last meaningful lyric censored from every genre (while not even allowing some genres on the air).

It's a given that popular music is going to be constrained, and that it's either going to be recycled oldies or so much autotuned garbage. That's the only thing that fits in their New World Order. Pun intended.

In terms of the rest. Part of the answer is in your question--we can literally find _any_ musical clique or subgenre of music imaginable thanks to this internet. What this means is that music is, in many ways, even worse than Cable TV now--every little type of music is sliced thinner and thinner until fans of it know and _demand_ a certain exact beats per minute, time signature, and everything. It's one of the things that drives me crazy about Dubstep and House fans on YouTube: that your UK sorts are fanatical purists who insist that it isn't "Strict Dubstep" unless it's some English twit doing the same exact thing all of the other English twits do. And that's not just Dubstep, it's that way in Hardstyle, Trance, Drum-n-Bass and more. It's that way in Country-n-Western, that way in most forms of Metal.

Fans flip straight out and have _panic attacks_ if a musician dares to do what artists do: make something original that doesn't fit in just ONE category.

    Or indeed, any category.

It's like this: I've been listening mainly to various forms of electronic/techno music on YouTube lately, when I want my music fix. And please note the lowercase, I'm speaking in the broad generic sense, not referring to Disco specifically or Piano Riff Raver/Techno House specifically. But I've been doing that lately.

Until yesterday, when I listened to some Linkin Park by accident, and found it pretty damned good even for the new, less crispy stuff. See, before 2000 or so I was a huge fan of nu-metal anyway--until that kind of music literally burnt itself out to such a degree that nobody wanted to play it anymore. And well, I had forgotten why that was so until yesterday.

Point is: some of this is the fans, being WAY too anal and nit-picky. We could stop being such Matrix Babies and actually open up our playlists a little.

What section are you looking at? First off, you can't really say anything about Jay Elect., the dude has put off his album forever. Next, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, and Royce da 5'9 are talked about daily. Also, Pete Rock is talked about daily. I see something about Mecca & The Soul Brother or The Main Ingredient every couple of weeks. Who are you to judge what good music is anyway? You're just one person. I will say that this section doesn't have a very wide base of music that we talk about, but the examples you brought up weren't great. ]

"Good music" is a relative term.

Everybody have their own first choices and more or less difficult to dissuade them. This is roughly similar to food tastes. The so-called junk foods is a favourite of some groups.

It is just that their type of music is "music" to their ears.

This has been going on for years. Its what people generally like. People like upbeat and happy peope

Though I like all types of music I'm not really in the mood to listen to "hubba bubba rooooaaaar kill everyone and my self" type of music on the radio while driving.

Oh look! Another oracle to speak to the degenerate generation of music!

Music is subjective. Get over yourself and realize not everyone likes what you like.
