Spider bite question?

My brother got bit by 'something' yesterday in the yard. He didn't see it but there's 3 little bites on his arm and his entire arm is very swollen and pink. He got very nauseas last night so he went to the hospital, fear of being black widow or recluse, the doctor gave him benadryl and said he would be fine but didn't run any tests on it and the hospital we took him to is one of the worst in the country but it's what we have. We live in Virgnia and I know what kind of spiders are here I was just wondering if any of you out there had some insight as to what it might be. My sister says brown recluse but I'm just not convinced and would like help deciphering it. Thanks!

It is possible the swelling and nausea is a reaction to a bug or spider bite, if this is the case, the benadryl will help.

Unless you sister studied venomous bites and stings, her guess would be no better than yours.

Without identifying the offending culprit, it will be impossible to say what the source is, but I would put spiders at the bottom of a list of possibilities.

I would just monitor the injury, and if it seems to be getting serious, then a trip to the doctor is in order.

At this point, you can't rule out a skin condition or infection, and these are often mistaken for bites.

I am sure if the doctor thought this was serious, he would have done a more thorough examination.

Things to watch for are swelling about the face, mouth, and tongue, as well as fever.
