Should you audition for a show with a song for a man if you're a woman?

Obviously, I'm not thinking of singing Old Man River, and I wouldn't sing a romantic ballad that was obviously targetted at a woman, but how about 'Puttin' on the Ritz'? That doesn't seem to be too gender specific. Thoughts?

Broadway songbird Linda Eder had a mild hit with her version of the title song from

"Man of La Mancha", so yes. And "Putin' on the Ritz" has been sung by the likes

of Peter Boyle, Clark Gable and Judy Garland. It's a song that knows no gender.
