How to clean the points on a Honda ATC 70?

I have an 83 ATC 70 that ran great a few years back. It sat for a while and the next time we tried to start it, it had no spark. If you know how, please tell me how to check the ignition points so I have a starting point as far as spark.

Thanks!

Update:

I guess my real question is, where are the points located.

Right or left side cover?

Most Honda OHC engines had points in side of head cover on RIGHT side- should be a plate about 2 by 3 inches with two large philips screws holding it on- points are underneath and can be cleaned with fine sandpaper and shot of Brakeclean or CRC electroclean. Gap is .014 to .022 on most singles- the gap is also a slight timing adjustment. 'Anvil/base plate' of points has a retaining screw and a slot at edge is for screwdriver blade to be inserted and twist to adjust, some had cam screw adjust instead but most points sets about that vintage on slot and oval hole in plate for the retaining screw. 1983 close to the solid state ignition use- might have a flywheel magneto pickup sensor instead- air gap and corrosion is problem then and light clean still need, polish rust and dirt from flywheel magnet block. Your next step after spark is old gas in carb may need good dose of Seafoam in fresh gas to run- if lucky it'll clean out without removing carb to clean- about 3/4 of carbs after winter storage locally clean up with fresh gas, seafoam and 20/50 miles run-- others need some more cleaning.

The points are behind the flywheel on the left (as sitting on the bike) cover, not behind the cover on the head.

NEVER use sandpaper to clean points, use a points file.

Usually under cover on right hand side case cover.

Use a little 400 grit sandpaper. Sand just enough to remove the imperfections. You will also need to reset the gap.
