Where do I take electricity bill disputes to?

Hi,

I have an electricity company trying to make me pay for an electricity bill for a period that I didn't live at the residence. I'm just wondering where I could contact to see if I have any grounds on not paying it, as discussions with the company itself are quick and pointless.

Thank you

Update:

Note, the time being after I left the premises

It makes no difference if you lived in the property or not. If the account was in your name, you owe what was used. If that is the same "pointless" response you got from the power company, maybe you are missing the "point". If you sign a lease and don't live in the property, that doesn't mean you don't have to pay rent. If you join a health club but don't use the facilities, you still have to pay dues. This is just the way life works.

You would be obligated to pay for service between the time you have it turned on in your name up until the time you notify them that you are cancelling service. Whether or not you live in the premises all that time has absolutely no bearing on the matter at all. None.

If you notified them to cancel service as of a certain date, and they are trying to bill you for service after that date, then you should not be obligated for any of those costs. This would not include billing for any unpaid service prior to your date of cancellation; you are still responsible for that and any fees, interest, and collection costs.

Hopefully you have some sort of documentation of your notice to them to cancel. If not, you might get them to document it for you in an letter or email by having them advise you of what their records show in this regard.

Beyond all that, billing disputes would have to be handled in court.

swap company right now away to an excellent company.tell atlantic to in actuality pass F*** themselves, enable them to attempt and take action against you,get a solid solicitor and rfile them to the place of work of ordinary buying and merchandising or buying and merchandising standards, ofgen is yet another.that could desire to form it out, only bear in techniques decrease than no condition pay the bill as no person at atlantic will have an interest in any grievance as quickly as the bill is paid.
