Editing music details in itunes?

I tidied up my itunes as in album artwork, song names, genres etc. Thought i backed it up by copying it to a hard drive. and then lost my itunes, copied the music back in expecting all my changes to be there but nope back to the original files as in song 01 etc.

I think i must have changed how the file appears in itunes as oppose to the original root file. Is there anyway to alter it so should it happen again, i keep the changes i am about to make.

    Just use an MP3 editor to change the details of the files themselves.

    There are lots of them out there.

    Probably lots better than this one but I have been using it for years and like it a lot.
