Is it normal to dread going to college?

It's ok to feel that way because you dont know what to expect right now and it just seems like more school. However it is going to be different from what you think, because the classes (format, teachers, assignments) are different from high school. You are treated as an adult, not a child.
This means freedom, but you have to act like an adult as well to really benefit. It's ok if you mess up too, many students do because now that you can do whatever you want, students often drink and party excessively. Its all a learning experience. You might enjoy your classes more because once past the core, they will be relevant to your interests or future career. Some students end up liking subjects they hated in highschool, others never thought they'd enjoy school but did in college because it really is different. In the long run, these few years are going to allow you to be stable in your career field and make more money (those without degrees are the first to get fired when a company downsizes).
Besides academics, this is where you discover who you are or become who you want to be. There's no such thing as the cool/popular kids, just be whoever you want with no social pressure. Kids are more mature now so you may make lifelong solid friendships. All this is why people grow up and say college was the best years of their life.

No. Most students are extremely excited to go to college, it's supposed to be one of the best times in your life. You get to leave the watchful eye of mommy and daddy and go out on your own to have fun. College is the ideal environment because you're there with lots of potential friends, have little responsibility and the most time you'll ever have to have new, fun experiences. If you are dreading going to college it could mean that you don't feel prepared (either emotionally or academically), or that you have some mental health issues. Either way you might not be ready and may consider putting it off. Some kids are so coddled by their parents that when they should be excited to be going off to college, they are too afraid to leave home. It's very sad.
