Pottery in NYC Where?

Is there any place where I could go MAKE my own mug (not paint one) in a day? I don't want to take classes or any of that. I just want to go in pay and make a gift for my friend's birthday. So does anyone know of any places? thanks. btw price doesn't matter

Update:

You can't heat a mug in a regular oven... everyone knows that

Some of the paint your own pottery places have pottery wheels. But many of them only have classes because you can't make a nice cup out of pottery without a wheel. And it can be dangerous to use a wheel without experience and/or supervision.

However, if you are experienced at using a wheel, they might let you. I know the Painted Pot in Brooklyn has a wheel, at least at one of their locations. (There are 3 Painted Pot stores - one in Bay Ridge, one in Carroll Gardens, and one in Park Slope. I know the one in Carroll Gardens has a wheel.)

Call them and ask if you can use it.

Why do you need to go somewhere to do this. You can buy modeling clay at craft stores or Wal-Mart and make whatever you want then you bake it in the oven to make it hard. If you want to paint it you can.

Edit to add. Modeling clay can be put in an oven. All pottery is baked in a kiln to make it hard. The clay you can make into anything you want. When you buy some it will come with instructions on how to bake it. And why can't you put a mug in an oven? I make custard all the time and bake it in coffee cups. Never had a problem with it.
