    Let’s do the math!!

    Math can be fun!

    1. Hmmm, according to the 2000 US Census, there are 9,213,099 people who live in coal mining counties in Appalachia.

    2. That comes to 92.13 measured in 100,000 units (9,213,099 / 100,000).

    3. The difference in death rates per 100,000 is (222.4 – 199.8 = 22.6). That’s 22.6 extra deaths for every 100,000 in coal mining counties in Appalachia compared to the rest of the nation.

    4. 22.6 x 92.13 = 2,082 extra cancer deaths every year compared to the nation. Yay for us!

    5. Compared to non-mining Appalachia, the difference is 222.4 – 209.2 = 13.2 extra deaths in mining vs. non-mining Appalachian counties.

    6. 13.2 x 92.13 = 1,216 extra cancer deaths every year compared to non-mining Appalachia

Instead of traditional mining, many coal companies now use mountaintop removal to extract coal.

Coal companies are increasingly using this method because it allows for almost complete recovery of coal seams while reducing the number of workers required to a fraction of what conventional methods require.

Mountaintop removal involves clear cutting native hardwood forests, using dynamite to blast away as much as 800-1000 feet of mountaintop, and then dumping the waste into nearby valleys, often burying streams.

    . Way to go!

    Isn’t coal great!

Source(s): Burning "Clean" Coal Emits Mercury Coal-fired power plants are the largest source of human-generated mercury pollution in the U.S. Mercury emissions from electrical generation continues to rise. Mercury in mothers' blood and breast milk can interfere with the development of babies' brains and neurological systems and can lead to learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, problems with coordination, lowered IQ and even mental retardation.

Agree with him or not you have to admire that he is standing up for what he believes in, not crazy about the use of coal but know that we have to use it, the same as fuel from other countries.

All the other supposedly other alternatives is nothing but a get rich scheme. I don't do FB or would check out the site, so Grizzily is standing up for what he feels is wrong even if the rest of you disagree.

    Enjoy the race everyone.

I am one who stands up for what I believe in no matter the obstacles. You went on Facebook and checked it out that was my goal. Thank you KIA in essence you are supporting my campain by talking about it. The more people talk about it, the more people check it out. People check it out they see exactly what I am preaching against. I can't stop coal mining but I can teach people what it is really about when you strip away all the propaganda and take away the smoke and mirror show. Coal is not the answer.

No,there probably are a lot of people that moan and groan over coal use,but i would bet that very few have turned off their electricity in protest of using coal as a energy source. Some times you just have to go with what you got.

I must have missed something. I know nothing of this Jr and coal story.

Gotcha. Well this wouldn't be a Nascar discussion place if we were talking about racing.
