Banjo sounds like guitar?

I just got a 5 string banjo and after I tuned it, it sounds like a guitar. I used an app on my phone to tune it. I could also be the placement of my bridge since it wasn't put in when I got it. So any advice on where the bridge should go and the right notes to tune the strings at would be very helpful.

    The best advice I can give is to take it to a shop, and have them make sure that it's properly setup for you. This may cost you a little but having it properly setup should resolve the sound issue that you're having.

    If you have a piano, tune the fourth string to a low D (the octave below middle C), then tune it to itself - hold down the fifth fret of the fourth string and tune the third string to that, then tune the second string to the fourth fret of the third string, the first string to the third fret of the second string, and the fifth (highest) string to the fifth fret of the first string.

    But if you're having troubles with the bridge placement, it's best to bring it into a professional to look at.
