daily dewormer pellets?

What are your thoughts on continuing the daily de wormer pellets for my mare?

My mare has been on the Farnum daily dewormer for 8 years. She is very easy keeper and a hardy horse.

Board has increased, it is now $100 more per month for the stable to give her a handful of pellets per day. She does not need inboard, and only goes in a stall (not clean) to get the pellets. This is considered "in board" though she does not need grain as she is fine on quality hay alone. Grain makes her too hot.

Is it worth $1300 per year?

I want to keep my horse healthy and give her the best of care but do question if it is worth the cost.

She is now 11, I have had her 7 years, never had a health issue in her life

Update:

She gets nothing other than her pellets and her hay and water. If I give her sweet feed or grain, she gets hot. She needs nothing other than quality hay and water to stay fit and healthy.

I just want to know if you would continue to pay the money for the daily de wormer at a cost of $1300 per year, or skip it and go to the rotational worming.

The fields are huge but they do not rotate them. The horses eat hay, no grass.

Unless your horse has an autoimmune disease that being on a daily wormer would help I'd go back to rotational. Get a fecal done before you start so you can make sure you start with the right drug plus it's a good way to make sure you don't have anything resistant or that has built up if you have just been doing the daily wormer with out rotationals in the spring and fall over the last 8 years.

I had a horse with an autoimmune disease and the daily wormer made a huge difference in his health so I did it despite the cost. Once he past I switched my other horses back to rotational with fecals. I don't see any difference health wise before and after the switch. You can always go back to the daily later if you have problems.
