Rice water (horchata) as a liquid diet?
I have chronic anal fissures, and my doctor would like to try me on a liquid diet for a few weeks. This means only consuming liquids and no solid foods. I love rice water, and was wondering if anyone has heard of using it for a liquid diet. I would make the horchata without the chunky rice in it, so it was only liquid. And I heard that rice has nutritional values. Anybody heard anything? Thanks.

According to the macrobiotic folks, brown rice is a complete food. I'm not sure if I agree completely, but I do agree that brown rice is extremely healthy and could be the only food in the short term. I'd also be aware that over the long-term, pure vegetarians need a balanced of legumes, whole grains (brown rice), vegetables, and fruits. You also should consume B12, D, and a source of Omega-3 fatty acids (ground flax seeds, almonds, and walnuts). See any book by Dr. Neal Barnard for details.
If you are going on a liquid diet, I'd make sure to purchase a 2HP blender (such as a VitaMix) so that you can prepare fresh food. Look up "green smoothie" on the Internet for recipes for healthy smoothies containing greens with calcium, iron, and protein (without the damaging effects of cow milk products). I usually add water, ice, kale, flax seed, orange, and lemon to the blender to make a delicious breakfast drink. Avoid whey and dairy products because of health concerns.
For more information, look up "whole plant based diet" and authors such as Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Neal Barnard, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr.
Another approach to this issue is to seek the help of a naturopath or other medical professional who can monitor a water fast (where you only consume pure water for many days). There are retreats with staff that can monitor your water fast. They will also prepare you for your diet after the fast by providing you with instruction on the preparation of foods on a whole plant based diet.
For information about water fasts, read the book "Fasting and Eating for Health" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.
