Where does waste gas nitrogen come from during the extraction of iron?

During the extraction of iron from haematite in a blast furnace, nitrogen gas is produced as a waste gas. Does it come from the hot air that is blown into the furnace? And does the hot air used consist of only oxygen gas?

Nitrogen is not really produced in the reaction. The air used is enriched with oxygen, but it still contains a lot of nitrogen, since almost 80% of normal air is nitrogen. The nitrogen gas simply enters the furnace and escapes unchanged.
