how to create password protected image directory in website?

Hello guys, I am really struggling with this problem.

Please provide step by step instructions please?

A visitors can't access directly by website image directly

    There is no way to stop them directly accessing the images directory as if you do password protect it, the images will no longer show on your site as there will be no permission.

    what you can do though is drop an empty html file into the images directory and name it index.html so they cannot see the image directory list, although when they go to a single image itself it would not take a genius to find out its location and name, therefore they will be able to see/grab whatever it anyway.but it would be more hassle to grab all the images, then again thats not hard to bypass either.
