Would a virus increase my internet usage? How can I find which one it is?

I have smart cleaner program on my laptop and it didn't pick up anything. In the last month my internet usage has skyrocketed but I'm not using any new programs. I did notice that there is something called white smoke working as my search engine (I haven't been able to remove it) and I have a Bing screen saver that keeps coming up that shows popular videos that I also have not been able to remove. Any help would be appreciated!

Whitesmoke is a rootkit from the imfamous TDSS family. A system file is infected, meaning deletion is not possible.

My advice to you is to seek help from a professional FREE malware removal forum such as Bleeping computer

If you wish to try yourself there is a tool from the well known security company Kaspersky, It is called TDSSKiller, a scan will take about 10 - 30 seconds, and will disinfect the vital system file. This is the best place to start. If you wish run the tool and see if it finds anything, if so re-run to make sure its gone http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363

    Please post back any findings

Yes it can increase your internet usage. Try 'Malewarebytes' and 'spybot search and destroy' one is free and the other has a free trial.
