Does pine tar treat thrush?
My Farrier said my horse has thrush and that I
should use pine tar to TREAT it. Will pine tar actually treat it or what? Cause I can't find any info about pine tar being used to treat thrush. So knowledgeable people reply.

Absolutely not. About the last thing you'd want to apply to a hoof already infected is pine tar that provides the perfect environment for the anaerobic bacteria to thrive and multipy and worsen the infection. Years of hoof research has shown that application of pine tar is damaging to hooves and if thrush is already evident, the damage will be that much worse. The research shows that pine tar should not be applied to hooves under any circumstance.

No. I would not use it on my horse. The best thrush medication can be purchased at Tractor Supply. It is mastitis medication for a DRY COW. It is a box of 12 syringes. Put the tip into the crevice between the heels and push until meds can be seen running out. Then apply a bit on the bottom of the frog as deemed needed. Use daily until heel crevice closes. This will heal your horse's feet and will not harm the tissue. All other commercial products kill the diseased and healthy tissues which sets your horse up fo repeated bouts of thrush.

Your farrier might know something we don't, but I've never in my 40 yrs worknig with horses heard of pine tar to treat thrush. Thrush Buster, Clean Trax, bovine mastitis meds, heck even peroxide or dilute bleach I've heard of. But pine tar? Nope.
Ask your farrier where he went to school and where he got his info.

no pine tar does not treat thrush, usually it is used to moisturize and this is not what you want!! this is going to sound VERY weird but what i use is a 50\50 mixture of polysporin or neosporin and cream for yeast infections LOL it acually works and is cheap just put lots on around and on the frog every night until it clears up!

Best thing for thrus is Bactakill 55, it's available from most feed/tack shops. I have never used cider vinegar so I can't comment there, but I have to peroxide is brilliant for thrush and gravel, our vets recommend it.

It sounds fishy to me.
I've had excellent results with No Thrush, a dry powder thrush treatment. It works wonders and can be bought online.

Yeeaahh... I would be getting a new farrier right about now. That kind of ignorance is not something I would want my horse's hooves exposed to.
