Low Milk Supply Problem?
I've been breastfeeding for 5 monthes and it seems my baby is never done eating.. He tries to get more from me, but eventually gives up like it's not there.. which maybe it's not. But then he doesn't cry after either. He seems happy all around, but our last appointment he's not gaining enough weight.. I'm trying fenugreek, but it just seems that since he's still happy and sleeps through the night (8pm-7am) then shouldn't it be ok? Also, will a dream feed help milk supply? I just don't want to deprive him of sleep...
Oh, the reason i think the supply is low and because at our last appointment his doctor said he's not gaining enough which to her meant that my supply was not giving enough calories.
Thank you both for your insights. :) I think it may just be something like the formulafed/breast fed chart mix-up. He is happy and progressing well in every area. And has lots of wet and dirty diapers. Thanks again!

My guess is that your pediatrician is comparing your baby's weight gain to those that are formula fed. Many pediatricians and doctors are not the slightest familiar with the average growth of a breastfed baby.
Here is an article you might want to read and have your pediatrician read as well. Sounds to me as if your son is doing just fine. How are his wet diapers? Is he on solids?

If he is sleeping through the night, wet diapers, happy he should be fine. Why do you think you ahve low supply? Babies this age eat ALL the time, and sometimes they just want to 'snack' or comfort feed. He might just want to stay on for comfort.

If you really need to increase your production I would try Breastea from http://www.breastea.com/ and drink it daily. Do you have a pump? If so dual pump after baby is done feeding for five or ten minutes at a time. This will help too. I would also call the lactation consultant at the hospital where you delivered and talk to her. She can be a huge help.
