In an interview with TV Guide, Bell admitted that the departure “came out of the blue,” although, “I did have a plan in place because when it's contract time you have to be prepared.”

Bell then explained how the show will deal with the character, noting that he will not be killed off. “Right now I can only tell you this: Ridge will not be dead or presumed dead. He will just not be in the picture. I don't want to do a presumed death because I don't want the story that follows to be all about Ridge,” he said. “This will be a Brooke story. Ridge is a pivotal part of the show and he will be back in a matter of time...and probably not all that much time. I will continue writing for the character. I'm looking at this in two phases, really. There will be a period of time without Ridge, which is where some new, interesting avenues for Brooke will come into play. But at some point it will be necessary for Ridge to return to the show. Who will be playing the role at that point remains to be seen.”

He also said that he “might go a little younger” when recasting Ridge...Brooke should like that!

While viewers know that soap world maladies often don't meet with the same outcome as medical troubles in the real-world, the prognosis for Stephanie certainly isn't optimistic. A real-world median life expectancy for a stage-four lung cancer diagnosis is about eight months. Less than ten-percent of patients are expected to be alive five years after the initial diagnosis.

But would Bell really write out the three-time Emmy-winning Flannery? It may not be his decision to make.

In February 2008, Flannery said in an interview that she was beginning to think about a post-acting life.

"I'd like to leave in another year or so," Flannery told Australia's Ten Network. "You know, you're in the grave a long time, and it's nice to be able to do other things, so I'm seriously considering it. "

For his part, Bell called Flannery "unpredictable," but said that he hoped the actress would continue to be a part of the B&B cast.

Ridge I heard it was a few things because of pay cut also this summer the actor and his wife were in a big car accident and that I think was awake up call for both of them and they decide to spend more time together ,also the show has gone more towards the younger age group if you have notice its all about Steffie Liam and Hope and the other actors get hardly any air time any more and I find that to be a dam shame because there was really good actors on the show and they just let them go or don't use them as much any more

I think the actress that plays Stephanie it was because of health problems and she just wants to quit!
