My Dog Lost a Lot of Weight?
I've got an 11 year old Alaskan Malamute/Shar-Pei mix male dog. Over the past 2 or so months, he's lost a lot of weight, to the point his bones are starting to show--he was around 65-70 pounds, and lost around 15-20. He's also had diarrhea really bad. It was completely liquid, last week it started to clear up a little bit, but now it's back to liquid.
We've tried taking him to the vet several times in the past, but he's too aggressive towards unfamilliar people. Having the 'fat' Shar-Pei mouth and extra skin, he was always able to pull out of a muzzle no matter how tight (we also tried 8 different kinds).
I called the vet last week because I thought he may have worms, to ask if I could give him dewormer, just to make sure. I gave it to him, and thought that might've been what caused the diarrhea to wrosen again, but it's still the same.
He's always ate the Ol' Roy Wal-Mart regular dog food since he was a pup, and Kibbles & Bits, but he stopped eating it for a couple weeks, and I bought 3 different kinds before he started eating the Ol' Roy again sometimes.
Since he's lost this weight, he's not acting sickly or less active than he usually was for 11 years old, but it is starting to concern me. 69 degrees out side in the morning and he's shaking, so I've been bringing him in.
I wish I could take him to the vet, but he's just too aggressive, and they won't give him any sedatives or tranquilizers because of his age. Has anyone experienced this with a dog before? What would you suggest to clear up the diarrhea (I've tried cheese, bread, anti-diarrheal tablets, pepto tablets, etc.), and to put weight back on? I've been feeding him a good amount, but I'm also concerned I may be over feeding him too.
Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks, everyone. :)
He's also got fleas, and I've tried a few different things to get rid of them: that stuff you put down their back, this natural flea spray, and another spray and it's not working...

He is an older dog, and may have a disease or some sort of cancer that is making him lose so much weight. Dog's don't just lose weight like that for no reason.
If it is worms, you don't have to bring the dog to the vet, you have to bring in a stool sample. Except for a heartworm test-blood gets drawn for that one.
To clear up diarrhea, stop giving him cheese and bread. Dogs don't digest lactose, so dairy products tend to give them gas and diarrhea. Bread isn't good for a dog either.
If you do get another dog, stay away from the Walmart garbage. Zero nutritional value. Get a high quality dog food. You actually feed the dog smaller amounts when you feed higher quality, so you end up saving money in the long run.
If you are able to muzzle him yourself for the vet, you need to prevent him from tearing the muzzle off by not allowing him to get his paws up to the muzzle. This means holding him down and restraining him. It may take 2-3 people.
As far as fleas go, you need to use something that works like Advantix. Avoid the cheap stuff from Walmart. It does not work, and those cheap meds are also toxic and can kill the dog or cause horrible reactions. You also need to exterminate your entire house and yard. It will probably take more than one treatment to get rid of fleas.

*headdesk* Ok, serious question. Do you not see what's missing in the above? Let me help. How about getting her to a VET?!? I cannot imagine watching my dog in agony for this long and then showing up on yahoo asking if it's dying! Yah, sooner or later if you sit there staring at her and don't get her to a vet, I'd think she'd die. Ten is old, but not ancient, especially if she's mixed with a smaller dog. But even being elderly doesn't give an owner the right to neglect her like this, or write it off as dying. After 10 years of unconditional love, this is the best you can do?

I would try to feed him a little bit of cooked ground chicken or turkey, maybe some rice too. It sounds like hes not getting the proper nutrition, and while I understand that some people just cant afford or find natural grain free dog food, you should at least look into it. And I have to say, ive never heard of a vet not taking in a dog that is aggressive, even if he is an older dog, they should still be able to sedate him a bit, and should know how to handle an aggressive dog. Try taking him to a different vet, we had to take our elderly dog to many vets, each of them were scared of her because she is scared of strangers, but then we found an on the road vet who knew exactly how to handle her. Dont give up!

Try feeding him a raw diet. Feed him about 2-3+ lbs of raw venison, lamb, buffalo, beef, chicken, etc., every day until his stools harden. His food might be the reason he is sick and has diarrhea. You see, Ol' Roy is known for using only corn and sawdust as fillers and doesn't produce any nutrition whatsoever. My dog was on that before and she had a dull coat, low energy level, diarrhea, was lanky, and was often sick.
I tried Kibbles & Bits too and she continued having diarrhea not to mention throwing it all back up after feeding time. So I decided on feeding her raw meat every day for the next couple of weeks and the diarrhea cleared up, her coat was glossy, she started to play more, she put on muscle, and she hasn't been sick since.
Ask your veterianarian about this though. If you can't afford a raw diet, try feed him a grain free diet such as:
Orijen
Taste of the Wild
Blue Buffalo
Evo
Innova
Solid Gold
Wellness
This should help. That Ol' Roy stuff is probably killing him.
