Why don't women play 5 sets at Grand Slams?

Just protocol I guess. Women can handle playing 5 set matches. To be a tennis player you have to be fit enough to go the distance. Why would there be different expectations for males and females?

I think the reason the women play best of 3 sets is because women's matches don't draw a huge crowd like the men's matches do. So the promoters of the Grand Slams want to make sure that the women's matches end faster so they can get to the supposed "real tennis." That is just my guess. I think there are many women's matches that are so entertaining. Tonight, Venus Williams lost to Kerber in 3 sets that took 2 hours and 45 minutes. The marquee men's match before that was only an hour and a half. So yeah, everyone should play 5 sets in the Majors it would definitely make for some interesting tennis no matter the gender.

Well, men just have more power and most of the time more stamina at that point of their lives. You think women want to play some five hour matches? I don't agree with women playing 5 sets in grand slams. It's just too hard on their bodies, I think. Sticking with 2 out of 3 is a good choice.

Actually they can play 5 sets matches. It used to be that the wta championship before 1997 or 1996 womens have 5 sets matches but only in that tournament. So this prove that women have the capibility to play 5 sets matches. Plus, the 5 sets shouldnt be an issue at all. If mens want correct justice they should be noisy about why men should play 5 sets matches instead of 3 sets. It is just because they dont want to have the equal prize money with women and want to show male domination over women.

Tis a good question. Women have better stamina than men. There's still that age old belief that men are physically better than woman in every category when it's scientifically not true. It would be really cool to see women playing 5 sets.

Imagine Maria Sharapova grunting for a full five sets. The thought is enough to make me cringe.

Women don't have the sane body capabilities as men do.

Less stamina, physical strength and periods.
