Can any team beat Hawthorn?
After tonight's win against West Coast, it has made me think; Who is the team that can take them out?
Now, fellow YA members, I have done a little bit of homework. It is known that Geelong are the team which have the best record in recent years against them. And let's just say that the ladder ends up as follows (which is most people's predictions)
Hawthorn
Adelaide
Sydney
Collingwood
West Coast
Geelong
North Melbourne
Fremantle
First matchup would be Hawthorn vs Collingwood. If Hawthorn win this match, then they will eventually play against Geelong in the Prelim finals (giving that Geelong win all their matches)
Where as if Collingwood were to win that match, the potential Hawthorn vs Geelong match can only happen in the Grand Final
Still a long shot, but I'm predicting a Hawthorn vs Geelong, and Adelaide vs Collingwood in the prelims. What are your predictions? http://www.afl.com.au/bailey%20ladder%20predictor/...
And of course, who, if anyone, can beat the Hawks?
@shane, I'm just saying that these are the only scenarios where Geelong and Hawthorn can face each other. It'd be a bloody good effort to make it to the Grand Final after finishing outside the 4. I reckon Adelaide might've been the last team to do that...
FUN FACT: The last time Adelaide won 2 finals matches in 1 year, was in 1998, where we won the whole thing :D

My Catters can, thats for sure. And Swans on a good day!
I have had Hawks vs Cats in prelim finals for few weeks now and I'm thinking Cats might run out of puff by then and get done (after playing Swans in Sydney). We are not expecting to win it but anything close to the finals is a bonus. Hawks are my tip for GF, not necessarily to win though.
And this is coming from Cats supporter!

I think it's actually very likely that Geelong could end up 8th if they don't win today, leaving them a trip to Perth against WCE. I'm quite confident with winning in that scenario given how close we went without Tommy and with effectively a two + 1/2 man bench for the rest of the game.
That would see Geelong and Hawthorn not meeting until the Grand Final.
As for the other teams, well I differ from some of the hype. I thought last night's game was very low quality. I think Sydney would have beaten the Hawthorn that turned up there, Freo would have scared them and so would North. I think Collingwood are in horrible form right now and I don't quite know what to make of Adelaide. But 4 out of the 7 other teams could have beaten that Hawthorn.

No team is unbeatable in September . Many different situations and scenarios can occur, even umpiring can cost teams a win ! Think back to Stevie J and that smothered around the corner kick against the Saints recently. Imagine if that had been a kick to win a final ? It must also be remembered, the Hawks have just played 2 finals like games against top rated Sydney and West Coast, Guerra has already buckled under the strain, and is most likely now done and dusted for the finals. A tough first up finals match could again seriously test the Hawks, and they could well be spent if further injuries occur before Preliminary final day, It may not happen, but it also could, and from now on for all finalists, its pretty much down to good management and heaps of luck !

Any team can beat any other team On Their Day. However, BH, under your scenario you seem to hint that the Cats are going to get there, (GF that is).
This season has been so even that as of next week anything can happen. Personally, I don't think we can overlook the Swans strong and consistent form throughout the season. Also, if results go that way who knows what can happen in a Derby. North Vs Cats isn't a forgone conclusion either.
So you see, Mate, while the Hawks are everyone's fancy atm, anything can happen. I'm waiting until after the end of the 2nd week of the finals to reserve my decision.
Go the Mighty Hawks though.

On current form I think the Doggies are in with a chance after seeing them play the Swanees at the weekend. It depends what happens as the season wears on (injuries etc.) but the teams I would give a rough chance to beat the Hawks would be Geelong of course and just maybe Adelaide, Port Adelaide but on current form I am thinking it will be Hawks v. Cats in the Grand Final but that's on current form. My leaning is that the Hawks will win the Grand Final and be a more worthy opponent that Port Adelaide last year - but we must keep an eye on both South Australian teams and a lot of improvement left in both of them. Hey the Swanees might fluke it too????????

Yeah mate, the Tigers flogged them by 10 goals, pity we're not in the finals, last time they won the flag in 2008, we were the last ream to beat them too, might be an omen, seriously though, Geelong can match them and beat them, I'm still on Geelong for the flag. Like i was last year.

If we don't take so long to wake up, we can. We were closer at the end of the game than at the end of the first quarter. :(
