Why do so many Mexicans hate their Spanish heritage and celebrate the Aztecs?

I hear it over and over: the Aztecs were great and Cortes and Spain screwed everything up.

Aren't most Mexicans a mix of Spanish and Indian? Why do they hate one half of their heritage?

Some are more proud of their Spanish heritage and some of their native heritage. And there are LOTS of native tribes in Mexico, not all are Aztecs. I have some Mexican friends who love their native heritage and some their Spanish. Or both.

Umm no they do not. They seem to be proud of the Spanish language and catholic religion, their Spanish hertiage. Some Mexicans are very Eurocentric, but there are others on the other side (but there are many very Eurocentric Mexicans). You have never seen what some will say about Indigenous Mexicans, have you? If Mexico hates its European heritage, then why the hell do the Indigenous Mexican receive discrimination in Mexico? in language and culture. It has only been within a couple of decades when Mexicans really has began respecting the Indigenous heritage.

Because it brings up the fact that the Spanish destroyed their culture and forced their own upon the Aztecs. I appreciate both my sides, but there are some Mexicans who harbor anger towards that.

I'm Mexican and I'm just proud of MEXICAN culture. Neither Native nor Spanish. It's a mix and blend of both. Neither one or the other.

The Spaniards did not conquer the Aztecs alone. They had help from other tribes too. Textbooks should provide this fact.

Most Mexicans are not that big of a mix of Spanish and Amerindian. Most of them are definitely have more Native blood in them.
