Why are so many people OBSESSED with Doctor Who?

I understand fandom; I'm a fan of many shows myself. But what I don't understand is the absolute OBSESSION people have with this show! Can anyone explain? Or is it just hipsters and nerds being hipsters and nerds?

    i never heard of that show but i don't understand why people are so obsessed with glee.
