If it was not the water bottle that caused the caution to be thrown than what was it?

I no that in my state it is against the law to litter, so why is a nascar driver aloud to throw their trash all over the track? why wouldn't they just throw it on the floor like the rest of us? and if it was not the water bottle that caused the caution nascar then why don't you tell the fans what it was. Typical of nascar trying to make problems to get their ratings....

Why Drivers don't throw it on the floor (or even leave it in the car): chance of it getting stuck under the pedals!

What caused the caution, a piece of debris near the wall on the backstretch. ESPN showed it (along with a message passed along by Nascar that the water bottle was not the cause!), the media later went to Nascar to clarify, Nascar showed them the same video of it being picked up: https://twitter.com/jeff_gluck/status/242102408816...

Nascar also said that drivers throw water bottles out all the time (Just as Keselowski said) and they are never the cause of a caution.

Typical of Nascar and the media clarifying such situations. Also typical of some "fans" trying to blow it up into something that it's not.

There was a time this practice of throwing something out of the car to cause a debris caution was commonplace, they even talked of some teams that (at the driver's direction) would leave the rollbar padding loose (not taped in place) to make it easier to remove. Especially in cases of regular backmarkers, they'd remove a section of padding and throw it out the window in hopes of a debris caution to keep from going down a lap.

It was easier to see if you actually went to races, but this happened all the time.

About 10 years ago NASCAR passed a rule against this, and there's even mention against the practice ("intentional discarding of items from the car to cause a caution flag to be thrown will result in immediate penalties") in the Rulebook.

As far as the current practice of discarding water bottles, this is something that happens all the time, too, right now. Everybody does it. Go to a race, and get a seat near enough to the track, or an infield pass, and you can pick up all the water bottles you want when the race is over. They'll be all over the inside of the corners. If you think your favorite driver doesn't do it, you're an idiot.

Normally, the practice is done under caution. Whether Keselowski threw one out last night during the course of green flag laps is still open to argument - it seemed the announcers were saying during the broadcast that there was other debris that resulted in the caution, and it appeared that by the timing of the broadcast that the caution had already been thrown when Keselowski discarded his empty bottle.

If it was done during a greenflag lap, especially since it was caught by mutliple camera angles, NASCAR will drop the hammer on the team on Tuesday when penalties are normally given out.

Otherwise, there are tons of debris cautions that NASCAR doesn't say specifically what it was - its up to the network to try and show this and keep up with, if they can figure it out via their cameramen and spotters - but it's pretty much stupid on your part to suggest that it's NASCAR's responsibility to inform the fans of every little thing. If you were a real fan, you'd know better.

Being at the races, I have many times seen drivers throw water bottles. But it's always been under caution and somewhere off the track. It does appear at 1st thought Brad did this to get a caution. But at the same time, he isn't stupid. He must know about the gazillion cameras.

As far as nascar throwing BS cautions, no one can deny this. They've proved with stupid rule after stupid rule over the past decade that they will stoop to any level.

Any one who throws anything on the track during a race should be disqualified. The interior of those cars will hold a water bottle or a pair of gloves or a sandwich or whatever they want to eat or drink. They throw out the items for cautions and if under a caution they throw something out they should be made to get out and go pick it up.I don't like Harvick, but he was right on with his comments,

Contrary to belief, there is no rule stating that you cannot

toss a water bottle out the window...

Source(s): rule book says you cannot intentionally stop or spin, or any similar action to bring out a caution. [sic] NASCAR makes that call in their judgement.
