Can a electric scale weigh anything?

What i mean is if i put a 5 pound box on the scale will the scale weigh the box?

    Bathroom scales typically cannot be used to weigh anything under 10 or 20lbs. Anything below that will not give a reading. This doesn't mean that the scale cannot be trusted to weigh with an accuracy of 0.2lb. It just means that the manufacturer determined a min. weight limit, below which the scale should not give a weight, because it would either be too unstable, or it would interfere with the auto-on feature.

    Bathroom scales usually display weight to 0.2lb which is not accurate enough for US postage rate calculation if that is your goal. For items weighing 5lbs, you should use a kitchen or postal scale which will have a much better resolution than 0.2lb (usually about 0.002lb/1g).
