Depends what you did to recieve it. If you've been a bad tenant and they have a valid reason to give you a 3 day notice they can do it

Have you not known that you haven't been paying your rent for quite a while already? What makes you think you are entitled to stay even one day past when you paid? You do know that the landlord has bills and a mortgage to pay on the building and she has to eat too don't you? Why are you looking for a way to stay longer when you know you don't deserve to be there? Just do the right thing for once in your liberal democrat life and get out now.
Also maybe if you spent more time working instead of earning top contributor badge in yahoo maybe you would not be in this mess.
