Some of the oldest manuscripts in the world contain Gods name as the Tetragrammaton which is then translated as Yehweh or Jehovah, the latter being the English translation.

I am fortunate enough to live about 45 min from the London British museum where many of the old manuscripts and old Bibles are kept, and it is good to see Gods name there right in front of your eyes!!

That is why many other translations have included Gods name, here are a few.....

    Today's English Version - Preface

    Following an ancient tradition,

The distinctive Hebrew name for God (usually transliterated Jehovah or Yahweh), is in this translation represented by "LORD."

    King James Bible

That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

    American King James Version

That men may know that you, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the most high over all the earth.

    American Standard Version

That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah, Art the Most High over all the earth.

    Douay-Rheims Bible

And let them know that the Lord is thy name: thou alone art the most High over all the earth.

    Darby Bible Translation

That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah, art the Most High over all the earth.

    English Revised Version

That they may know that thou alone, whose name is JEHOVAH, art the Most High over all the earth.

    Webster's Bible Translation

That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

    World English Bible

that they may know that you alone, whose name is Yahweh, are the Most High over all the earth. For the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by the sons of Korah.

    Young's Literal Translation

And they know that Thou -- (Thy name is Jehovah -- by Thyself,) Art the Most High over all the earth!

"The removal of the Tetragrammaton, (YHWH)

(frequently translated as Jehovah), from the

New Testament and its replacement with the

surrogates KYRIOS (LORD) and THEOS (GOD),

contributed significantly to the later...Trinity "

    - George Howard, Bible Scholar ;

The Name of God in the New Testament,

    BAR 4.1 (March 1978), pg 15

"The American Standard Version of the Bible

has "Jehovah" in it about "6,823 times",

just like the original Hebrew, but the NASB

    REMOVED IT EVERY TIME. "

    -Jason Beduhn

Department of Humanities Arts and Religion

As Christians it is our duty to make Gods name know. Jesus told us to prey for Gods name to be made known it is the first part of the lords prayer Matt 6:9

See "Should the Name Jehovah Appear in the New Testament"?

    http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/wp2008...

PS, those that say "there is not J in the Hebrew and so it should be Yahweh" and in the same breath they will call his son Jesus, and we all know that the correct pronunciation is "Yeshuah"

I think you are right. They are the ones fulfilling Matt. 24:14.-note to Yannis-some Bibles have removed the name Jehovah from Psalms 83:18. The King James Version has it in. It was originally in the Bible close to 7,000 times.

Yom Kippur was the only day of the year when it was permissible to speak the Name of God. Yes God does have a name, but it's not Jehovah or Yahweh. These names were created out of the four letters that Hebrew scribes used to represent God's name in the Old Testament. Wherever the word LORD appears all in caps, you'll find the Hebrew letters JHVH, (or YHWH) in the Hebrew text. Theologians call these four letters the tetragrammaton, which is Greek for "four letters".

So, in effect these four letters are God's initials, standing for His real name which some say contains 72 syllables.

Since Hebrew has no vowels, early English language translators added an E, an O, and an A, (vowels they took from from Elohim, a form of the Hebrew word meaning God and Adonai, Hebrew for Lord) to JHVH and created the name Jehovah. We used to think that was God's name. And in Hebrew the four letters are pronounced yod, he, wah, he, which probably gave rise to the "Yahweh" we use today. Neither one is really His name.

As I've said, it was forbidden to speak God's actual name except for once a year on Yom Kippur when it was spoken 10 times. After the Temple was destroyed, the Yom Kippur ceremony gradually changed until the name of God ceased to be used and was subsequently lost.

So no one alive today knows God's name, and it probably hasn't been spoken on Earth for about 1700 years. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Philippians 2:9 says that Jesus, or if you prefer the Hebrew, Yeshua is now the name above all names. This is now the name by which God chooses to be known.

    Psalms 83:18

"Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord—

that you alone are the Most High over all the earth."

Where do you see the name 'Jehovah' in this verse in Psalms 83? God Himself "gave him the name that is above every name":

    Philippians 2:6-11

"Who, being in very nature God,

did not consider equality with God something to be be used to his

    own advantage;

    but made himself nothing,

taking the very nature of a servant,

    being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man,

    he humbled himself

    and became obedient to death—

    even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place

and gave him the name that is above every name,

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father."

Actually Psalms 83:18 is targeted towards these countries:

    Edom

    Ishmael

    Moab

    Hagrite

    Gebal

    Ammon

    Amalek

    Philistia

    Tyre

Did you forget to read the whole chapter?

I see no mention of any last days or a people to be called by his name.

I think we should pronounce our Creator's name with all our heart, soul, and might in the "pure language" of Hebrew:

Zep 3:9 For then will I turn to the peoples of a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of YEHOVAH, to serve him with one consent.

I usually try to call people by their name.

Guess there will be lots of people named "Jehovah" in the "last days", eh?

And of course jehovah is Jesus's OT name!
