Anywhere to (safely) drive fast in/near Texas?

I know you can reserve track time at racetracks, but I'm 18, and want something a bit more... casual.

Does anyone know about any abandoned racetracks/drag strips/airfields or just really long, empty paved roads in Texas, where you can just drive like maniac without worrying about cops?

Not wise, most of the time. There is no one around to pick up the pieces and try to glue you back together again.

However there is an exception: Big Bend Open Road Racing (http://www.bborr.com/). Now there are still rules because they want to keep the event "safe". But it allows you to go about as fast as any one can drive, provided you can prove your car is safe to do so and that you are able to handle what the car can do. Also it is only for a few days out of the year.

Now another choice is to join SCCA or at least attend the events (solo II or what ever you feel you have the money, skill and car to race in). The area (http://www.scca.com/about/?cid=44660&r=sw) has three race tracks it runs events at, and maybe you can satisfy your need for speed there.
