Is there any artistic career that doesn't require being famous to get a good salary?
I'm a senior in high school, and I'm having trouble deciding on a career choice. I feel like I would do well in something artistic (as opposed to scientific,) but I'm very apprehensive about pursuing a career in the arts because, as far as I can tell, a person needs to be famous in order for their career to be financially successful. It seems like most, if not all, artistic careers don't pay well unless you're famous; painters, animators, sculptors, writers, directors, authors, musicians, etc. I realize money isn't everything, and that I need to be happy with the career I choose, but I don't want to live my life scrounging for money. I want to be financially secure. Can anyone think of a career in the arts that doesn't require fame in order to be successful? Because I can't.

"If it doesn't come bursting out of you in spite of everything, don't do it."
Which is from So You Want to be a Writer by Charles Bukowski. If you please, read the whole poem as my answer to your question.
Generally artists of any kind get paid **** unless they're famous. They keep doing it because it's something they want more than they want a comfortable life. If you can stand to do something else, just do something else. If you really gave a damn about the things you create, you'd keep creating them even if you weren't getting any recognition, even while you were doing other things.
I'm sure there's some aesthetics branch in advertising in which you'd be paid quite well. I think you can make a decent living in journalism, even small time journalism and you won't need to become famous to make it. If music is your craft and you don't intend on making it, you could give lessons.
