    fg(x) means f(2x+5). This means you replace x by 2x + 5 in your expression for f.

    Instead of 3x + 5 we get 3(2x + 5) - 1, which is 6x + 10 - 1, giving 6x + 9.

    Similarly, for gf(x), replace x by 3x - 1 in your expression for g.

    We get 2(3x-1) + 5, which is 6x - 2 + 5, ie 6x + 3.

    Hope this is clear!
