Reaction Products Equation Question?

AB + CD --> AD + CB

Why are the products not AC and BD? And why are they not DA and BC?

    In this above reaction the reactants dissociate in A+,B-,C+ and D-. So, cations attract anions, and thus AD and CB are formed. AC and BD do not form as they are of similar nature and they repel each other.

    To answer your second question, it is a general convention that cations are written first and then anions(except organic compounds where anions may be written first then cations)

    Well, its the displacement reaction. More reactive ones replace the less reactive. A is more reactive than C, hence it displaced C. C and B then reacted with eachother. Also there is no DA...Its the same as AD but there is a agreed-upon convention stating which materials are stated first in the formula, hence you need to write it as AD.
