Will my kid inherit my bad eyesight?

I was told I have to protect my eyes, or my children in the future will have bad eyes because of me!

But I don't really believe it. As my sister and little brother's eyesights are very well, just me, I have a bad eyesight. So I believe no bad eyesight gene in my blood!

But still I'm afraid! I can see many little kids have to wear eyeglasses, and have bad eyesight. I don't think it's because their bad eye-using habit!

If that's true, will I get a better eyesight if I protect them from now on?

depends it could skip a "generation" and effect the grand children

or it could effect only a couple of your children,

as my mom and dad have great eye sight, so does my older sister but

me and my little sister have bad eye sight, and that means we follow after my moms

mom who also had bad eye sight!

but then again my nan had bad eye sight( moms mom) and 2 of her children

had great eye sight and one had bad eye sight.

then my great nan had bad eye sight and one out of 2 children had bad eyesight

so it probably will effect one or more child, but it's not your fault! someone gave you that "gene".

i have bad eye sight and my boyfriend don't but i suspect one of our children (when we have some) that follows me will,

as in my family who ever "looked like" my nan who had the bad eye sight got the bad eye sight! lol

but not my mom she's just lucky and got away with it! but who cares, glasses these day can be cool!

(i have -3.00 in one eye and -2.75 in the other)

and no you can't protect them, if they are going to decay out of gene they will,

even if you use glasses or not, it's nature taking place unfortunately,

but don't feel bad, it's not nothing that's effecting your health, think of those people

who have a disease and are scared of having a child that picks up

on that gene, now that makes your concern nothing compared to that...

Well I'm going to eleventh grade (I'm 16) and my eyesight is appalling. I think it's -8.25 in the left eye and -7.25 in the right one. That's a LOT. So you should know you're not alone. I used to wear glasses until ninth grade, but when I turned fourteen I began wearing contacts to school and whenever I went out. They really are so much easier to live with than glasses, I suggest you get some unless you're broke or allergic! Yes, it's normal to have what looks like a chunk of your face missing, and for your eyes to look smaller when you've got strong myopia. But that'll be gone if you get contacts. Anyway, I don't think there's much you can do about slowing down the deterioration of your eyesight. Some people say eat carrots, don't stare into the sun, don't stare at the TV really close up, don't read in the dark or in dim light. Maybe that's all even true, but I haven't noticed much difference. Thankfully laser eye surgery is getting safer and more advanced as we speak. When you turn 18, you can probably get it (I'm planning to myself).
