I tried to pick up my hermit crab but he pinched me. how can i pick him up without him pinching me?

Try grabbing him from the back of his shell. This reduces the chance of him pinching you.
Also, they pinch when they feel unsafe. So make sure as soon as you grab him, your other hand is right under him, so he feels safe. And make sure your hand is flat, so he has nothing to hold onto.

Pick him up by the shell with one hand, then open your other hand so it is completely flat and set him on it.
If your hand is flat, he has nothing to pinch. There's nothing for his claw to grab hold to.
However, they usually don't pinch anyway unless you make a sudden movement.
