Yes, some relaxers have the same chemical make up as Draino. I have honestly never seen a AA woman with a relaxer with hair past her shoulders. They show them in commercials lol but I haven't see one personally, that's not to say they're not out there though! Yes relaxing will make your hair straight, but if you want your curly pattern back you will have to grow your hair out, or cut it off to get your natural curls back. My mom and 2 younger sisters have relaxers and their hair never grows past their shoulders, same with all my female friends who had or still have relaxers. But at the end of the day it's your choice. Whatever you choose good luck to you :)!!

Hun, I am not being rude... But its very bad for your hair. Not only does it fry it eventually it will make it fall off, which has happened to many rock stars over time. Now you can always use products and take extra care of your hair and get a wet hair straightener and it wont be so bad. :)
Just go to a local hair salon and ask for great cheap products, they will be able to give you advice that no one here can.
Best to luck for you.
Also which is better?
Straight lifeless hair, or radient curls of life?
Your hair is just so plain straight...
Thats why in all Greek and Roman mythology the Gods and even worldwide Goddesses had curly hair. Now if you dont like your curly hair then you can find out a way to style it to make it extra attractive.

Hi, don't listen to half of these answers! Yeah, relaxing isn't the best thing for your hair but if you look after it GOOD and relax it every 3-4 months you'll be fine. I have relaxed hair, and my hair is long, and HEALTHY! I trim it every 2 months, use heat on it once every 2 weeks, take a hair supplement, deep condition it and much more. And my hair is HEALTHY! It just depends on how good you look after your hair.

It will make it straight (permanently. There is no going back. Your roots will grow and be curly but the rest of your hair will be straight. You'd have to either get touch ups or a permanence to go back natural looking). It is also the MOST CHEMICALLY HARSH thing you could do to your hair. You accidentally leave it on your hair a few extra minutes, and it burns off and breaks.

There's'nothing wrong with relaxing your hair. If youre young then your mum probably says that it damages your hair. To be honest it can damage it if you dont do it properly. Idealy, you should be relaxing your hair a minimum time of 6 weeks apart. If you use the right relaxer for your hair type (the boxes normally say for, thin, normal or coarse hair on them) and you use the right hair care products(shampoo&conditioner, creams etc) then your hair will be absolutely fine! :) Hope I helped
