How to set up a safe website?

I want to set up a secure website which offers access to free on-line learning to work I have created myself.To ensure protection of the data, I understand that the data needs to be encrypted and have been advised that run-on apps using the android operating system is the way to go.(Perhaps a port hole site is also needed.) I am not a specialist in this area and so need to know information and information that is not too technical for the non-specialist. Can someone help, please?
