You will not be able to trade it in or sell it. If you contact the insurance providers and explain the situation, they will be able to advise you on how to send it to them for disposal or recycling.
If you try to send your phone to any recycling company eg mazuma, they will not pay you any money and they will not return the phone. All recycling companies are bound to checking every phones identity aganist anti-theft software called CheckMend. Yours will flag up on here as lost or stolen.
Basically even though the phone does belong to you, you have already had the value of the phone returned to you which was in the form of the same phone, so you have no rights what so ever when it comes down to claiming more money for this particular phone

You cannot do anything with it, as the phone doesn't belong to you or your nephew; it belongs to the insurance company, as they replaced it under your insurance policy. If you try to trade it in, or sell it to an online website (eg Mazuma) they will not accept it, as it is unusable on any network. A simple IMEI check will bear out this fact. Ask the insurance company if you can "buy" it off them, so that the bar can be lifted. Only when the bar is lifted can it be used as a phone. It can be used on wi-fi only, if you do nothing to lift the bar, but it cannot be used on any network, nor can it be used for Blackberry services, such as BBM.
