Is it socially acceptable to lose your virginity at 16+?

I'm incredibly curious about this.

I know that there isn't a specific age you have to be in order to lose your virginity (unless you're under 18 and want to have sex with someone over 18), but by social standards...

From what I've seen/heard/etc. it's perfectly normal to lose it in your teenage years. I'm not talking 13, 14, 15, but 16, 17, you know. It just seems right, I don't know why. I've seen more stories where people lose their virginity at 16 than at 22 or after marriage. Not to offend anyone or whatever.

This is more of an opinion question, but when do you think is a 'socially acceptable' age to lose your virginity? Is it really that bad to lose it as a teenager? Reasons?

My conclusion would be that it's okay to lose your virginity before marriage and before 18+/21+ as long as you know that the person you have it with is the person who you'd not regret... well losing it too. If that makes sense. xD

Thanks!

OH and yes, I myself am a teenager. No I don't have raging hormones or am I in a rush to lose it – it's still in tact by the way. Just curiosity.

I don't know where this expression came from, loosing virginity. If anything, it's about girls who lose their hymen. What do guys lose? Instead, guys are gaining experience from all this.

Ok, let use this term. Loosing virginity to someone worthy, that's what everyone want. This used mean something when girls were not as easy as they are today. Today, they are almost offering themselves to any decent guy. Men used to have a long courtship period before the lady would let him kiss her lips. Giving head, fingering, and hand jobs, all this was reserved only for prostitutes. No self-respecting man or woman would expect this from their date or from their spouse.

Losing virginity used to mean long and hard pursuits of a woman. And for women, it meant many years of saying NO to something that was very tempting.

Today it's easier to get laid, both for young boys and young girls, than to learn how to relate to one another. Today young people cannot communicate face to face. They find it easier to text each other. Young people do their courtship via texting. Via texting they discuss sex. Then they meet up some place, get naked and have sex. Only they probably still don't know how to talk to each other without their keyboard on the iPhone.

Losing virginity, is it a sad moment or a happy moment? Well, something is lost. My question is, was it ever well guarded? I have a feeling that under the right circumstances most young men would have sex with any semi-decent looking female, if they only could. I think it is true for many young ladies too, they would not resist any semi-decent looking man, if he only knew the right words to say to them.

Even as recent as 100 years ago, sex for the first time usually took place around the time when he or she was mature enough to live and function in life on their own. Now young people have sex, come home and wait for their mother to bring them milk and cookies to bed. Today, having sex for the first time does not move your maturity that got stuck around age 12.

Traditionally, having sex meant you were ready to become a parent. Can you image today's teenagers as parents? Some do become parents and we have kids having kids. What is their life experience? What is their maturity level? What are their social skills? What can these parents teach their new kids? Can they get a job and provide for their own new household? Or, do they expect their parents to take care of them and their new kids?

Having sex too young makes everything backwards.

But, if I have to pick the age, I say 18. If you can go and serve in the military, if you are mature enough to take life, you should be mature enough to create life.

I still think the phrase, losing virginity, should be reserved for girls who lose their hymen during their first time sex. If you want to be technical about it, and if the hymen was lost prior, due to some other reasons, then her first vaginal penetration by penis should be considered for her as losing virginity.

Everyone is different. One person might think that it is socially acceptable, and one might not. Like you said, there is no age for losing your virginity. It also depends on generation. My grandmother would be appalled to know that I lost my virginity at 17 because I was not married at the time, in our grandparents day, most women waited until marriage. BUT with that being said, most women got married a lot younger back then. I lost my virginity at 17, and I completely regret it. I honestly wish I had waited because I just did it to "get it over with" with someone I barley knew, and it just wasn't with someone special. But, someone might lose their virginity at the same age as I was and never regret it. I really think it all depends on if you are ready or not. Emotionally ready is the most important, and it should be someone you love and trust. I have heard my friends say even thought them and their "first" didn't stay together, they didn't regret it because they were together a long time before that. I just think you really need to be ready. I think 16 is still young, but I would say in the right circumstances it is acceptable.

Why would anyone care unless you are very open minded and think its okay to discuss your sex life with people who might or might not be comfortable doing the same.

There is a reason for age limits and waiting until marriage, it's not about who you love and having sex, but what it is about, is being able to make decisions about the choices you make. It is also about deciding what is right when it comes to the consequences you face based on those choices you made.

There are many teenagers having sex because they are either trying to find love or they are experimenting. But once that teenager becomes pregnant or is faced with an std, they have to be able to to tell their parents, and often time they are scared of telling their parents, because of what may be going on at home.

I had a boyfriend at 16, but we waited to have sex until we were out of high school and in our twenties, and I will tell you it was not easy convincing him to wait until we were ready.

But when I had sex with him I knew for sure that he and I loved each other. And even though we broke up just recently, I will not regret it because we had a dire love for each other, that no one will ever be able to have. Do I regret not waiting until I found the right guy to share that with (the guy I marry)? You bet, but I don't feel sorry for it. But there is still a first time for everything, and I think that the experience I have with my husband down the road will be more special because it will be for life long love.

    Its not really relevant

    what is

is that most teens think they need to lose it early as soon as they pass the age of consent and usually their relationships falter after that

they should be better focused on establishing a connection and laying the foundations to their unions instead of thinking having sex as soon as they can will make it the be all !

    it wont!

you know why some adult relationships last longer then most of you guys being born? because they dont use sex as the single premise to holding it together. they nurture each other, compromise talk and grow together

    cheers
