That's not a whole lot lower than mine but I did pretty well on the SATs and I honestly probably could have gone to any college I wanted to. No college I applied for turned me down. I got scholarship offers and was even recruited to go to some very impressive schools. I ended staying close to home though. On the other hand though, there has been some grade inflation since I went. I don't know how much that has changed. When I went a C was average, now I think a high B is average.
So the answer is this:
1) Do well on the SAT. A perfect score on the SAT will get you into any school you want to go to.
2) If you can't do that, community colleges will accept anyone and if you do well there you can usually transfer to a 4 year university nearby. Most of the time 4 year colleges will accept people almost automatically from the nearby community college.
3) If you can't transfer then just get into the best college you can. The college you went to doesn't really matter that much once you get established in your career.

Hello there,
Don't be afraid that no college will accept you! Even with a 2.5 GPA, you still have a shot. GPA is highly considered to colleges, but another part of that goes towards your personality. If this is your unweighed GPA, a 3.0 would be a really good goal for you. I am only a freshman, but it is probably possible to get a GPA of 3.0 if you REALLY work for it.
Remember that clubs, sports, and extra curricular boost your chances. I suggest you load up on those! Also, the more rigorous of a course you take, the bigger of a smile on the colleges face, but you need to be good in them. A few great courses to take as a senior include calculus, physics, AP biology, AP chemistry, English honors, a 4th year of language, and a higher level history course. You don't need to take all of them, or any of them; but they're good courses. If you can do AP calculus (especially BC), or AP physics C, and have good grades in them, then colleges will love it. If you can't then don't worry, just take as much rigor as you can keep up with!
If you have a hidden talent, colleges look at that too, as well as your essay/interview. It's not only just GPA that decides if you get in.
