Is my baby's weight gain normal?

My little girl was induced at 39 weeks. She was 6lbs 7oz when she was born--19 inches long. She gained on average 2lbs per month for the first 2 months. However, she's 4 months old (today)--and has only gained about 1.5 lbs since her 2 month check up (she's 11 lbs 11oz now, 23.5 inches long). She's always eaten really frequently--she's super active--she has 7 or more wet diapers in a day. She has a bowel movement every other day now--back when she was a newborn it was several times a day (the mustard colored kind). She is a happy baby--she's got fat on her--but she's pretty lean. She started rolling over at 3 months--and even started sitting up on her own at 3.5 months old (not for long, but she can still do it). She's sleeping through the night now consistently 12.5 hours without feedings. She seems to be progressing quickly when it comes to everything else, but weight gain. Should I be concerned, or does she sound normal and healthy? For background info--my husband is super active, and I was also a very lean baby--and we're both short--me 5'3" and my husband is around 5'5". Do you think it's just genetics? Should I call the doctor? If you average it out she's gaining over a pound a month...but still. Do you think I should wake her up for night feedings? I didn't force her to sleep this long--she did it completely on her own. Anyway, any information would be good here! Thanks in advance :)

If her doc was concerned they would tell you. She sounds like a very happy healthy growing baby to me. You are very blessed to have her sleep that long at night, I would just let her sleep. Some kids are just small. My 3.5 year old is 28 pounds and my 6 month old is 21. I have a small one and a big one. Congrats and good luck!

Generally babies average about 2 pounds a month for the first 4-6 months, then slow down quite a bit. And they like to see at least a pound a month during that time period.

So 1 1/2 pounds in 2 months is well below the 'average' and quite a bit below the minimum.

But a single low weight-check is rarely cause for concern if all else seems fine. Babies don't gain weight steadily, and she may be due for a growthspurt soon.

Having said that -- 12 hours at night is a VERY long stretch for a 4 month old. Unless she's nursing every hour or so through the day, that usually means she's not eating often enoguh, and it can also cause problems with your supply.

I would definitely be waking her at night. While you can't force her to eat if she's really not hungry, I WOULD be offering. Try offering about every 2 hours during the evening hours, and every 4 hours during the middle-of-the-night. (So if she's beeen sleeping from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., wake her at 9 and 11, and then again at around 3. Then she can sleep until morning.

My oldest daughter had an extraordinarily rough time with weight obtain. I breast fed her. She used to be about 11 lbs at age three months. By the point she used to be 9 months she used to be 15 lbs. After that she did not reap any weight in any respect. She was 15-16lbs until she was once 14 months historical. I suggest you could have your daughter see a genetic medical professional if she continues to have weight gaining problems, and falls on th charts. We observed that my daughter had a progress extend, something to do along with her bones. Even as she used to be three years 3 months once we the experiment. Her bones have been 1 12 months 9 months. When placed on a chart for the 1 y 9 m. Together with her height and weight she was exactly 50% on the charts. She also had kidney problems that have been found out at the moment. She had urine that flowed from one kidney slow and then reflux with brought the urine again up. This used to be neglected, but finally brought on her organs to swell. Upon a easy ultrasound they discovered her limitation together with her kidneys. For the brought data, shes ordinarily going through a progress spurt. Very traditional at around 6 weeks, 2 months and so one. You will get use to those and understand whats happening after 2 or 3.
