What is this type of artwork called?

I've seen this type of artwork mostly in grungy-looking CD albums and artwork done on paper done by tattoo artist whose style develops around these dark, yet vibrantly colored, zombie-type inspiration. Many times, they involve zombies, and extremely creative and detailed monsters. I just love how the colors are always vibrant, and I was trying to figure out artists who did these kinds of works.

I'd really appreciate it. I saw a short interview on YouTube once about a guy who made some really complex paintings that had this dark, vibrant, monster-ish feel to it. I'd look for it again but I can't remember the artist and don't know where to begin.
