Will i receive housing aid from school if i choose to not stay at dorms?

I am attending Cal State Los Angeles and i was just wondering if my school will give me the left over money since i will not be staying in housing. I wanted to stay there but they ran out of room and now i have no option but to take the train. will i receive the money that is not being paid towards housing or do they get to keep my money anyway?
